Passover, The Significance

Ever heard about the Passover? It is found in Exodus 12. It is the day that God saved His people, from Egypt. It begins with the 10 Plague that hit Egypt with the last plague, that was killing of all the firstborn. The Israelites were instructed to mark the doorposts of their homes with the blood of a lamb, and upon seeing this, the spirit of the Lord passed over these homes, hence the term “passover”.
Often we always think it is just an event in the Bible, a story, but really, it is more than that.

It is amazing how the old testament all points to Jesus.
When men (adam) first fell, God already had a plan to restore the broken relationship back.
And everything that God did in the Old testament is a shadow of Jesus’ coming! Amazing!!

Wokie, let’s be marvelled with God’s wonders…lets start –

1. It is the first step of getting saved – is to believe that we need a saviour. A beginning of our walk in the new covenant.
2. The lamb of Passover is reserved for 4 days before being offered. It is placed in front of the family’s house so everyone will know that this is the lamb that will cover their sin. Jesus prayed 4 days in the temple before He was crucified and people saw Him.
3. The Lamb has to be without blemished. Jesus was examined by Herod, Pilate, and Caiaphas and found not guilty.
4. It has to be the lamb of 1st year. Meaning a young lamb! Jesus was the only Son of God and He came once.
5. It had to be male lamb. Sin entered through man.
6. Every household needed a lamb. Jesus died for you and me. It is a personally thing!
7. The lamb was to be killed between evening of the day till the next day. Jesus died in the middle of evening.
8. The whole assembly must kill their lamb. Jesus died for all.
9. The blood was applied to the door post. It symbolizes the cross.
10. Lamb had to be eaten. It is us partaking the body of Christ.
11. It has to be eaten quickly because they were leaving Egypt the very next day. It is to show that we must get out of our sin quickly!
12. This is the Lord’s passover. God’s redemptive plan for mankind.
13. The whole thing was done in evening. Jesus came and the last meal – Last Supper – evening.
14. no bone of the lamb should be broken. Jesus’ bone will not be broken. It was clearly only His blood that make atonement (cleaning) of our sin.
15. Lamb was killed outside the city. Jesus was crucified outside of the city.

Every year, they celebrate this feast of Passover! It is to remember the day that God brought them out of Egypt! They are all to go to Jerusalem to offer the lamb. But, if there are Israelites that were not in Jerusalem, they were to offer a shank (thigh) of the lamb.
Isaiah 53:1 – arm of the Lord ( Hebrew Zeroah = arm)
Symbolizing that if you are outside the fellowship for Christ, the arm of the Lord is not too short to save!
