wie geht’s?

if you are wondering what that means, it’s How are you? in german! How are you, all my dear readers?!

Today is the mooncake festival! What are you all up too? Any special dinners? Well, for me it’s the same…if there are special occasions, my cooking group and I will cook something special. But after a few years, we realised it’s more a less the same special dishes that we cook. This time there are..

Emperor chicken! One of my fav dish! It’s simple and taste really nice.

Green curry. It’s my first time. KL (cooking friend) bought the paste from Cosway, and surely she did not recommend wrongly, it’s simply delicious! Yummy!!! Something we as a student can cook easily yet taste so great!

Fried tanghoon. For those that have been reading my blog for quite some time, normally special occasions like these, fried tanghoon will appear, right? aha, why? Coz it’s really nice and precious…tanghoon all the way from Msia bo! This time, it’s stir fried with beancurd, black fungus, mushroom and egg. Really nice!

With all these food, reminds me of home….reminds me the time when the whole family went out to eat and my daddy ordered my 3 favourite dishes - hot&cold dish, butter prawn and yam basket. That was the time I felt really touched *teary eyes*…I miss home……..I miss my daddy mommy!

Never mind! 10 more months and I’ll be home! It’s going to be as fast as a blink of an eye! I’ll study well, take care of myself and be a good girl here!

Huggy!!

food that is yummy!

Exam time = balanced diet!

Did your parents ever tell you that you are supposed to it superly well durin exam time? Some parents will give ginseng drinks, chicken essence or bird nest?

As for me, thanks to KL, who made an extra for me, I get to enjoy really good food during this exam session. Of course it’s not everyday that I can have these food, it’s just once in a while. Other time it’s just milo and biscuit or maybe just nothing at all.

sandwich

Sandwich - vegetarian style, super yummy! Lettuce, tomatoes, stale bread, cheese - healthy lunch! Just one will make you full!

burgers

Fish burger. It’s yummy!! Yea, it’s 2 for me. haha, I couldnt finish at one go so only ate one and kept the other for breakfast.

strawberry ice-cream

This I made myself, that is why it doest look as appealing as the previous. It’s just ice-cream with strawberries. Yummy!! I’ve been craving for strawberries since it was out but because it was superly expensive, about rm 30 perkg, so I didnt buy at all but since it’s only one week before leaving this place, I definately need to eat some. So, bought a few yet, it didnt taste as nice as I thought it could be. Maybe it wasnt that fresh, maybe my expectations are too high. But I really believe that fresh strawberries are very sweet and nice!

pelmini

one last one. Just made it today, it’s called Pelmini. Looks like wantan but the skin is a bit more harder and there is meat inside. Can try it, boil it, cook it with soup, spicy however you think you like. As for me, this time, it’s just pelmini with cucumber and sauce. My brunch.

Birthday party

It’s not exactly a party, just a small makan among friends. It’s Colley’s birthday. This time, we planned to cook….and like always, it is special. All togther, we spent around rm 100 for this meal and everyone ended up bloated! ahaha..

The menu :

Fried squid. It’s one of our specialty. ahaha…well, at first we plan to cut it into ring shape and fry it, but it takes a long time to do that, maybe up til 3 hours. And just happened that I saw Jamie Oliver’s Oliver Twist on how to cook squids. He did it the ‘easy’ way, put the whole thing in and then cut it into pieces, It was super!!! We decided to try it, and it was so nice! It was crunchy and tasted like keropok sotong. It is best serve with sauce, any type of sauce that you prefer.

Next, Emperor Chicken. The packet was imported from Malaysia. It was super, the fats juice from the chicken was superb!!! I could eat the whole bowl of rice with just tat.

3-layered salad. Ok, you might think it’s funny but i can assure you, it’s healthy! Steamed beetroot on the top layer, then middle is crabstick, egg and cucumber. The bottom layer is steamed carrots. It’s super. Very healthy and very Russian style! haha….KL manage to copy it from a restaurant that we went too….she’s really good in cooking! Our head chef here!

Then, baked chicken and mushroom in white sauce. Can’t really see the picture. I made that and I must say, it’s a failure!!!! hahaha…because of the macaroni..it sucked away all the white sauce leaving the chicken and mushroom to be dry! =(
Then the mushroom cream soup…by me too, it’s ok but too milky. I did it by raw material, not packet mix or canned soup! It is just perfect if you mix the macaroni and the soup together, makes it look like gravy! ahaha…

secret recipe

I remember reading in carrot’s blog, she’s always baking cakes, making pancakes and baking cookies. I so envy her! She has all her ‘friends’ to help her. Is it Andrew? *sorrie, I forgot his name! * Haha, I was talking about her tools to bake. Well, I bought an oven about a year or two ago. And since then, i have bake more than I have ever in my whole life. From orange butter cake to peach butter cake, cheese cakes and tats all that I’ve ever baked! It was all great success, k! Sometimes I feel that I have great talent in cooking! ahaha…*tidak malu!! **

Anyway, after I read what carrots did for her friends, the pancakes, I asked her for the recipe. It was about a month ago. I never got the ingredients ready or time to make. Finally, today, after being disappointed in a couple of things, I decided to make myself happy and make some love pancakes. I followed the ingredients properly and step by step…but it happened that I needed cup. erm…example - 2 and half cup of flour. CUPS??? What kind of cup?? Is it big or small? *puzzled* I decided to use a normal cup and measure everything accordin to it. It was perfect except for my buttermilk, I am 1 cup short! Because I only bought about 250ml. Opps..so, I added more milk instead. Ahaha…sorrie carrots for changing the recipe!

But it turned out very great!!!

Another I found out, I didnt have non-stick pan. The first time I tried making it, it became all mushy and cant even turn it because it was sticking to the pan. BAD! So, I borrowed one from my friend without permission from the owner. Sorrie. I promise to make some for you tmr!

According to Carrots, I am supposed to add some fruits to go with it. Honey or sweet syrups. I went to the supermarket, and the whole market, not a stall has strawberry. Just a few days ago, everywhere there was strawberry and it was cheap!!! rm 12 for 1kg. Where did all the strawberries go??!!! Disappointed again, I went home. Praise the Lord I bought honey a few weeks ago. So, I put in all the stuff that I had.

I made it small because KL thinks it’s really nice. Something she saw in the net. So she thought it might be cute to make the pancakes smaller. And she suggested that I add in prunes when I am making it, but apparently I don’t have. So, I put in raisins and honey.

The creative me suddenly came up with the idea of putting choc topping for this new pancake that I just made. I dont have chocolate but I have milo! A few spoons of milo and a few drops of water - choc paste. It was yummy…sweet! too sweet. How nice if I have strawberries.

to carrots : It was really nice! It was soft and definately the best mixture i’ve ever tried. the recipe’s ingredients were alot…as in, after i mix all of the stuff, it was so much, one whole big bowl. i stil have more than half a big bowl in the fridge. tomorrow and sunday’s breakfast will be pancakes! I was thinking to make some for my friends…so, those that get it tomorrow, it’s because I have all of you in mind! ahaha…ahaha…

I hate shopping when I am disappointed because I’ll end up buying really weird things just to cheer myself up! I bought spinach and bacons! Something I never buy because spinach - expensive. Bacon - I have no idea which is what and how to cook it. But God gave me an idea to cook - spinach & bacon spaghetti. It turned out very well, except that the bacon didn’t taste the way I thought it did. Maybe I should fry it longer for the oil to come out so it can coat the spaghetti better. The spinach was sweet and really fresh. This was my dinner! cool, isn’t it?

lost weight with vinegar

i saw in this tv show that said that you can lost weight by drinking one cup of apple cidar vinegar after each meal. I love apple cidar vinegar but never buy it because it’s not that cheap and i dont have a reason to buy it. i love whole list of stuff that i need before it comes to apple cider vinegar.

finally, when i heard about this, the first thing today was to go and buy!

here were the selection of apple cider vineger that can be found here in russia. somemore, they are imported goods! ahaha..ok, maybe one of them isnt vinegar but is balsamic. btw, what’s balsamic? anyone can enlighten me??

while making the drink, (not that hard, jsut one spoon and mix it with water)…it really reminded me of the time i will make for my mama to drink because apparently someone heard that it helps thin the blood and it’s good for the heart. =(

this is the one i bought. I drank my first cup and it’s superb!!! i hope i can lost some weight before summer comes….btw, it’s getting really warm now, and i guess in a week’s time, i’ll be seeing summer….

happy birthday, breezy!

happy birthday to a good friend….

look how happy she is!! Her smile can brighten the whole world!! she had a great birthday celebration last night. sorrie, i couldnt be there! Those that are wondering how to make a birthday unforgettable, please visit the link. ahaha!

As a tradition of the ‘cooking group’, we made special dinner for the birthday girl. We started to cook at 3 or 3.30 til 6.30pm. Stood the whole time and now, feeling that my leg has over worked. I am thinking, maybe next time in the operating room, maybe need to stand so long, so, a good training.

Back to the birthday celebration story. In any special occaion, there will be special dish. This time, it’s the meat wrapped in cabbage dish. It’s something I thought of but of course, like always, it didnt turn out the way I imagined it to be but it is nice. Firstly, need to steam the chinese cabbage so it’s soft but cannot over steam it! Then, take the minced meat mixture and wrapped it up, carefully. Then put to steam for 10-15 minutes. Next is to make the sauce. Since the minced meat mixture is a bit salty to taste, the sauce need to be sweet. Pour the souce onto the plate with the nicely arranged meat wrapped in cabbage, and it’s ready to be served!

Next, it’s the roasted chicken. We used this really cool Maggie packet. Very yummy. It almost taste like those roasted chicken you buy from the shop in Msia. If you make it correctly, it might even taste like roasted duck! In this case, we had chicken wings and drumstick and also some potatoes. It turned out really nice!! The potatoes were just right, crispy on the outside and soft in the inside. Because it was baked with the special plastic, the moisture from the potatoes was kept, tat it was it was juicy!

Next, a special salad. The second special dish for tonight - tomato, cucumber, cabbage and some roasted bread. Mixed together with some lemon juice, salt and pepper. It’s ready to be served. Just got to make sure the tomatos are fresh and the cucumber too! It’ll be nicer is there is lettuce but it cant be found here so we used cabbage. And since we are not used to eating it raw, we sort of steamed it first. Haha…and we were suppose to add olive oil but it’s too expensive to buy so, just lemon juice. Half a lemon. Very yummy. It’ll be great to add some feta-cheese, but it’ll be greek salad. So, here is a chinese way of preparing salad!

Then we have sambal egg - something we always have because we dont know how to prepare egg. We cant just eat it hard boiled? So, made sambal to go with it. Then there was chicken and vege kurma. Very nice! I can proudly say, I can cook Indian style Kurma. Learnt it from an Indian friend. She taught me and it really tasted so much nicer than the maggie packets that I bought!

I also made 2 BIG pot of crysenthemum tea, and I stil have a big jar left in the fridge. Yummy! It has been a long time since i made it. I used to love making it but now, less free. Haha…but must make it specially for Niny!

After that we had Apple Crisps. Very nice. Hope I learn how to make and I want to go home and make for mommy and daddy! ^^

friday food

Just thought of sharing what i normally eat on fridays. Most of the time, it’s spicy food. For this week’s theme, it’s curry speggetti. Yeah!!! Spaggetti…and curry. It does well….ahaha…this was cooked by KL and I. She loves spicy food so, normally on friday, we will do something very spicy or very chinesey.

Yesterday, it was chicken curry spaggetti.

looks yummy? it taste even nicer than it looks!

the drink is really nice, it’s Sprite with lemon zest and a slice of lemon. It tasted really nice! Actually, I was trying to make bitter lemon. But it came out not bad.

bitter lemon, can be considered as one of my favourite drink! btw, can you find this in msia?

How is everything with me? Well, been watching a series, singapore series, Parental Guidance by Jessica Hester Hsuan. Yes you heard me right! And guess what, the series is 100% in English. I was so surprised with her english, she speaks so fluently. Well, some of the part, she sounds very awkward but other time, it was really great! She doest have any chinese or even cantonese slang! Really wonderful!

Btw, got myself a belt! Love it!! Cant wait to start wearing it. Haha..maybe tonight for church!

Just finished Gynaecological cycle. it was indeed a very ’special’ cycle. Anyway, next cycle coming up is Clinical Pharmacology! Something I would really like. it’s about drugs! Wonderful!!! It’s really something a doctor should know like the back of his hand!
